CARanthen - an effective response to quarantine
On the 87th anniversary of its debut, the drive-in cinema returned to Budapest on 4 June in the parking lot of the New Nándor Hidegkuti Stadium to offer an alternative for future events.
Drive-in cinema, which enjoyed its heyday in Hungary in the 1970s, returned to life in Budapest in an unusual way in the parking lot of the New Nándor Hidegkuti Stadium on 4 June, 87 years after the opening of the first drive-in cinema.

Everyone has missed the big screen premieres, the traditional cinema atmosphere and the smell of popcorn lately, which is perhaps why drive-in cinemas are enjoying a renaissance and opening in succession. In the last few days and the next, at least 5 openings are expected in the capital area alone.
But it is not just the cinema experience that is missing from everyday life before the pandemic. Events will not be open to the public for some time yet. But CARantén, with its drive-in cinema atmosphere, is an innovative solution to the current situation, making leisure and professional events, conferences, training courses and seminars accessible to all.
The brainstormers, who are outstanding representatives of their profession, have responded to the challenge with excellence. They have shown that participants can experience events and conferences in a new way, sitting in their own car and tuned to the right radio frequency. And the special catering boxes guaranteed the delicious snacks that are customary at such events, while ensuring the right hygiene conditions.
And to create a social experience, they have combined the magic of online techniques with the magic of being there in person. Interactivity was the leitmotif of the event. As in a traditional event, participants were able to share their thoughts and connect with each other through the common use of different online platforms. They could do all this while enjoying a delicious meal, listening to music and watching a film.
The aim of the organisers was to offer an exciting and viable alternative to the current situation for event market players, which would take them out of the online world while respecting security standards.
