Two days in the footsteps of the Bártfa grass woman

18-19 April 2026.

We invite you on a special literary journey to one of the most beautiful historical cities in Slovakia! Join us Noémi Papp, a Stonewoman of Bartfai series, who will give a personal talk about the background, locations and behind-the-scenes secrets of the novels.

Why Bartfa?

The fable Barwood (Bardejov) One of the best preserved medieval towns in Central Europe. Impressive, Renaissance town centre, with its colourful townhouses, Gothic church and historic town hall, is a well-deserved World Heritage site. Its cobbled main square is like stepping into a historical novel - it is no coincidence that the world of the Stonewoman of Bártfa was born here.

Programme:

Saturday - Exploring Kosice and Bartfa

7:00 departure from Budapest (parking next to the Kunsthalle)
Approximately 11:00 arrival in Kassia

We visit the monumental St. Elizabeth's Cathedral, where it is optional:
- Rákóczi crypt (~2 €)
- King's staircase, tower (~2 €)
- St. Orban's Tower (~5 €)

Visit to the Sándor Márai Memorial House (~6 €), followed by an individual lunch in Kassa.

In the afternoon we continue our journey to Bártfa, arriving around 16:00.
After a walk through the historic city centre, a visit to the church (with tower for about €4), followed by dinner and a chat with the author in the evening.

Sunday - History and thermal waters

After breakfast:
- Jewish Quarter: synagogue and mikveh (~3 €, donation)
- City Hall (~2 €)

An excursion to the charming Bártfafürdő, once a favourite spa of the monarchy.
Visit Skanzen (~5 €), walk, taste the famous sour water, optional coffee or lunch. On the way home, short stop in Sikszo, which is also included in the short story collection Miattad wake up, evening arrival in Budapest.

The participation fee includes:

- bus travel
- 1 night accommodation
- a communal dinner
- travel insurance

Single room: 302 €/person
Double room: 265 €/person

Not including entrance fees (approx. €20-25 in total, depending on individual choice).
